When the first reports came in – frantic calls from Nigerians fleeing the chaos in Ukraine, stranded in Polish border camps – we knew we had to act. The images were heart-wrenching – families shivering, children hungry, the elderly vulnerable. We knew immediate action was crucial.
Our KGCF team, understanding the urgency, focused on providing the most basic necessities. We partnered with NIDO Poland (Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Poland), leveraging their local expertise and network to distribute emergency food packs, warm clothing, blankets, among other essential items. We saw firsthand the raw desperation in the camps – families who had built lives in Ukraine, now reduced to seeking shelter and sustenance. Every shared blanket, every food parcel, was a lifeline.
We witnessed the remarkable resilience of the Nigerian community, their spirit unbroken despite the trauma. We worked alongside NIDO Poland to ensure that the distribution of these essential items reached those who needed them most. Our collaboration with NIDO Poland was vital; they were our eyes and hands on the ground, ensuring that our support was targeted and effective.
Our intervention was focused on immediate survival, easing the hardship faced by our displaced citizens. While we couldn't address every need, we're proud to have played a part in providing essential support during a critical time, and grateful for the effective partnership with NIDO Poland.
